For those who want to know what the text actually says, he is an accurate translation from the original Hebrew, minus the bias from Christian Translators (*ahem* King James):

“Seventy weeks are decreed upon your people and upon your holy city to finish the transgression to make an end to sin, to expiate iniquity, to usher in everlasting righteousness, to seal up vision and prophet and to anoint the holy of holies”.

Know and understand: from the emergence of the word to return and build Jerusalem until an anointed prince will be seven weeks, and for sixty two weeks it will be rebuilt street and moat, but in troubled times.

Then after the sixty two weeks an anointed will be cut off and none will be left to him, and the nation of the prince that comes will destroy the city and sanctuary and his end will be with a flood, and to the end war desolations are decreed.”

Some important points to consider:

  • A week can be considered a week of years (ie 7 years), based on information given in Lev 25.
  • There are two anointed ones being spoken of here – the prince who comes after 7 weeks (49 years), and the anointed one who is not a prince, that comes 62 weeks (434 years) later. Ask a missionary who the two messiahs spoken of in Daniel 9 are!
  • Clearly the 62 weeks are separate from the 7 weeks since at the start of verse 26, it says “Then after the sixty two weeks
